Federal Tax Credit
What you need to know to get it done right!
On February 17, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009. This bill extends and modifies the tax
credits for windows, doors and skylights. Qualifying products purchased
between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 are eligible for a tax credit
equal to 30 percent of the product cost. The maximum amount of homeowner
credit for improvements is $1500.00 during 2009 and 2010.
- Purchase a qualifying product. Windows MUST have a U-Factor and a Solar
Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) rate of .30 or lower.
- U-Factor – Measures how well a product prevents heat from escaping. The
lower the U-Factor rating means the greater a windows resistance to heat
flow and the better its insulation value is.
- Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) – Measures how well a window blocks
heat from sunlight. The lower the windows SHGC rating, the less solar heat
it transmits.
- Make the purchase and install the qualifying windows and doors between
January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.
- Collect all sales receipts, product rating labels or approved testing
results from your State of Florida approved General Contractor.
- Collect a product only paid invoice from your State of Florida
approved General Contractor.
- Claim the Tax Credit for your purchase on your Federal Taxes for 2009
and /or 2010 tax filing.
